Spirits of Christmas SBCH event (January)

Due to popular demand, we have conjured up a second Christmas event on
Thursday 2nd January 2025 

Silent Book Club Hull Christmas Evening at Ye Olde House Café Bar, 5 Scale Lane, Hull

6.30pm until 9pm+

Join us as we bring back a Victorian Hull tradition of Christmas ghost stories in this very special intimate setting with author and historian, Mike Covell.

📖 Our familiar hour of reading together - so don’t forget to bring your books along!

🗝️ Then, we will dim the lights as the historical timbers of Ye Olde House lend themselves to ghost stories and we will hear some haunting tales as the Silent Book Club brings back the ‘Spirits of Christmas’ 

THE VENUE 

Arrive from 6.30pm at Ye Olde House, which originates from circa 1450 and has its own blue plaque confirming it’s the oldest domestic dwelling and only surviving timber-framed house in Hull.

You’ll find yourself in a cosy yet surprisingly bright café-bar owned and run by a wonderfully warm and welcoming sibling team who will direct you upstairs into the front room where we are gathering. 

Peppered with period features, this charasmatic venue with its exposed beams and 500 year old features offer a truly unique ambiance. 

The spirits are also plentiful downstairs too as the bar will be open for alcoholic beverages, hot and cold drinks are available to buy and food (which is wonderful, might I add) can be ordered until 9pm.  

OUR GUEST

Kindly joining us after our hour of silent reading is Mike Covell, Hull historian, prolific author, paranormal expert, to name but a few strings to his bow. Also the man behind ‘Amazing Hull Tours’, of ‘Most Haunted’ fame with a penchant for the dark and mysterious.  


Please note - This is a grade II listed building so I’m afraid it may not be accessible for everyone as our event will take place up a flight of stairs in the front room. 

Only 22 places are available, limited to ensure insurance adequately covers the event.
